FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What areas does Valley Realty Associates serve?

The whole Shenandoah Valley: Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro, Rockingham, Augusta, Shenandoah and Page Counties, and the towns in between.

Who is the principal broker?

Joanne Knauf (licensed as Joanne L. Smith-Knauf) is the principal broker and owner. The brokerage is licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Do you only sell houses?

No. We also help with land, farms, investment property and commercial real estate.

Can I search every home for sale here?

Yes. Search reads the MLS directly. Save a search and new listings come to your inbox as they hit the market.

Why does each community page have its own search?

Each search starts filtered to that place, so you see only homes there. You can change any filter once you are in.

How do I find out what my home is worth?

Request a home valuation. Joanne reviews recent nearby sales and sends you a personal estimate.

Does it cost anything to work with a buyer's agent?

In Virginia, buyer representation starts with a written agreement that sets out the services and how the agent is paid. We go over it with you before you tour homes.

What should I check before buying a rural property?

Well and septic records, the survey and any easements, internet coverage at the exact address, and the heating fuel. We help you line those up before you commit.

How do I confirm a school zone?

Use the school division's boundary lookup with the exact address. Town names and neighborhood names are not a guarantee.
